    Emily

Emily's sleep clock is out of kilter this week. Not sure why this is but the last few nights have been more sleepless than usual. Monday night she woke up at 4am and despite coming into bed with us (usually guaranteed to get her back to sleep) she proceeded to spend the next hour quite happily making cooing noises. Her new favourite noise is bababababa which she uses as a response to anything.

Last night she woke at 11:30 and refused to sleep in our bed, preferring instead to kick my head. I wouldn't mind but she doesn't have any reason to want to kick my head in yet! I put her back in her own cot instead and she nodded off - for about an hour. The cooing started, mixed with a bit of crying. My sleep was pretty broken and meant I slept through my alarm this morning.

    Jumping to conclusions

I always thought I had a knack for jumping to conclusions but a recent meeting has left me feeling somewhat unskilled in this area. There are true masters of doom and gloom out there who know exactly which conclusions have the best impact on others.

    Cancer Research UK 10k run

On Sunday I took part in the Cancer Research UK 10k run at Heaton Park Mancheter. I've been in some sort of training routine for the last 3 months so was hoping it wouldn't be too bad. I was right - it wasn't that bad. My time was about 1 hour 2 mins but with all the walking/running over the start line, it was probably about 1 hour. I'm very pleased.

I went out for a quick 3 mile run on the Friday before and ended up limping around half of my route due to a pain in my leg. That pain stayed with me all day Friday and part of Saturday. I was therefore a bit worried that this pain would recur on the race day but it didn't. I'm sure this was due to doing a decent warm-up before the race.

The rest of Sunday I felt pretty good. No real aches. This morning however, I'm feeling aches around the tops of my legs. Only to be expected I guess.

And what now? I'd do a 10k again but would I do anything longer? The great north run is tempting but I think i'd need a serious training routine to get through that.
